Fabric & Care · The Wyld Jace Guide

Most clothes don't wear out. They get washed out: too hot, too often, tumbled until the color fades and the shape gives up. The fix is easy. Here's every fabric we carry and how to wash it so it lasts for years, not one season.

The Sierra Layer Tee: undyed, unbleached hemp and organic cotton, made in the USA.

We started Wyld Jace Co because we were tired of cheap, synthetic clothing. So natural fibers come first (cotton, hemp and bamboo wherever we can), and the exact fabric is on every product page.

Five habits that make any piece last

The care label in your piece always wins. These are the habits we use at home, and they work for almost everything we sell.

  1. Wash less than you think. If it isn't actually dirty, air it out and wear it again. Denim especially.
  2. Cold water, inside out, like colors. Cold keeps the color and shape. Inside out protects prints, washes and the face of the fabric.
  3. Skip the dryer. Heat is what shrinks cotton, fades color and wears out stretch. Hang woven pieces. Lay knits flat so they keep their shape.
  4. Bag anything with details. Embroidery, studs, buckles and fringe go in a mesh laundry bag on delicate, or get a quick hand wash.
  5. Fold knits, hang wovens. Sweaters and knit vests stretch out on a hanger over time. Shirts, jackets and dresses are fine hung up.
Buy fewer pieces, pick better fibers, and go easy in the wash. That's really all there is to it.Wyld Jace Co

Our fabrics, one by one

Natural fiber

Organic cotton

Cotton is most of our closet. It breathes and it's easy to live in. A lot of our pieces use GOTS-certified organic cotton. GOTS (the Global Organic Textile Standard) is an independent certification that follows the fiber through the whole making process, not just the field. The Homestead Crop Sweater Vest is 100% GOTS-certified organic, unbleached cotton knit, made in the USA. The Untamed Tease Bralette is handmade organic cotton mesh.

Care: Wash cold on gentle, or by hand for open knits and mesh. Lay flat to dry and reshape it while it's damp. No chlorine bleach, especially on unbleached cotton.

Natural fiber

Hemp and organic cotton

Hemp is one of the strongest natural fibers there is. It starts out a little dry and textured and gets softer every time you wash it. The Sierra Layer Tee is 50% GOTS organic cotton and 50% organic hemp, left undyed and unbleached, and made in the USA.

Care: Wash cold and hang to dry. It'll feel a bit crisp at first and softer after every wash. That's the hemp breaking in, not wearing out.

Natural fiber blend

Organic cotton and bamboo

Bamboo gives organic cotton more drape and a soft, almost cool feel, so we like it for flowy pieces. The Valentina Dream Skirt (made in the USA), the Wanderlust Liberty Top and the Cliffe Freedom Overalls are all half GOTS organic cotton, half bamboo. Even the EcoFluff Scrunchie is made in the USA, from organic fabric scraps that would otherwise go unused.

Care: Wash cold on gentle, then lay flat or hang to dry. Bamboo blends relax when they're wet, so don't wring them. Press the water out and smooth the piece back into shape.

Natural fiber

Peruvian Pima cotton

Pima is an extra-long-staple cotton. Longer fibers spin into a smoother, stronger yarn, so it feels silky, hangs nicely and holds up to wear. The Milan Heritage Luxe Pants are 100% Peruvian Pima cotton, finished with a hand-carved wooden buckle.

Care: Wash cold on gentle and hang to dry. A warm iron brings the drape right back.

Natural fiber

Woven cotton and cotton tees

Crisp woven cotton holds a shape. That's how the Princess Ruffled Crop Top keeps its ruffles and smocking sharp. Our graphic tees and tanks, like the Cowboy Rodeo and American Rodeo mineral wash tees, are 100% cotton and made in the USA. The mineral wash is why they look worn-in from the first day.

Care: Turn tees inside out to protect the graphic and the wash. Wash cold and hang to dry, or tumble on low if you have to. Don't iron directly on a print.

Natural fiber

Denim

Denim is cotton woven for work, and it gets better the more you wear it. The Canyon Ridge Burgundy Denim Jacket is 100% cotton. Our jeans, the Rodeo Revival Flare and the High Noon Cuffed Wide-Leg, are 99% cotton with 1% stretch, so they move with you and still keep their structure.

Care: Wash it as little as you can, inside out, in cold water with like colors. Dark and colored denim can bleed for the first few washes, so keep it away from your whites. Hang to dry. High heat breaks down stretch fibers, and the dryer is the fastest way to bag out a good pair of jeans.

Where we're not 100% natural (yet)

We'd rather tell you up front: not everything we carry is fully natural. We're still a small, growing brand, and a few pieces have synthetic or semi-synthetic fibers in them. That's why the fabric is on every product page.

Right now the Outlaw Studded Denim Crop Vest and the High Desert Aztec Denim Jacket are 95% rayon, 5% polyester. Rayon starts as plant cellulose but goes through heavy chemical processing, so we call it semi-synthetic, not natural. We're working toward better materials as we grow, and we'll keep telling you what's in each piece.

Care for rayon blends: Rayon is weaker wet and shrinks with heat. Hand wash it, or use a gentle cold cycle in a mesh bag (that protects the studs too). Don't wring it. Hang or lay flat to dry, and keep it out of the dryer.

Storing your pieces between seasons

Wash or spot clean before you put anything away, because stains set over time. Store it in a cool, dry closet, in cotton bags or bins instead of plastic, which traps moisture. Fold knits, put jackets and dresses on sturdy hangers, and don't cram it all in tight.
